Designing a beautiful website is a must—but structuring it the right way is just as important. Your website should be clear and easy to navigate. It should guide visitors to help them find what they need and turn casual visitors into paying clients, loyal readers, or customers.

If your not sure how to organise your website, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. In this post, I will walk you through a simple, effective website structure using visuals from my own Squarespace website templates to show you exactly what works (and why).

  1. What is the goal of your website?

Before you begin creating your website, ask yourself:

What do I want this website to do?

  • Book clients?

  • Sell products?

  • Share content and grow an audience?

Knowing the primary goal of your website will guide your entire layout

2. Core pages for every website

There are 5 main pages that should be included in every website at the very least:

  • Home - First impressions matter! Let visitors know what your offering, how it can benefit them, and how they can take action.

  • About - Let people connect with your story and mission.

  • Services or Shop - Showcase what you offer with clean call-to-action buttons.

  • Contact - Provide an easy way to reach out to you. An email or contact form should do.

  • FAQ or Resources (optional) - Reduce questions and show your value.

3. Guide visitors with clear navigation

Your menu is like a map, it help help visitors navigate your website and find what they’re looking for.

  • Use 4-6 menu links

  • Prioritise your most important pages and put them first on the menu

  • Add a button or accent link like “Sign up” or “Book Now”

4. Homepage: Your most important page

Your homepage is your website’s first impression and a roadmap to everything else. Your homepage should be made up of the following sections:

  • Hero section - This is the first section your visitors will see. It should include a strong headline + subheading + a call-to-action button (e.g. “Schedule a Call” or “Shop Now”

  • About section - Write a short introduction about your brand or voice and briefly explain your mission

  • Product or service features - Highlight 1-3 examples of what you offer

  • Testimonials section- Build trust by showcasing social proof from real customers/clients

  • Newsletter signup or final CTA - Invite them to connect

5. Use strong Call to Actions (CTAs)

CTAs are prompts that tell visitors what to do next. Some examples include:

  • “Schedule your Free Discovery Call”

  • “Shop the Collection”

  • “Download the Guide”

You should have a clear CTA on every page—ideally more than once. Make sure they are linked to direct users to the page or section you want them to be at.

6. Keep it clean, balanced, and easy to read

A well-structured website:

  • Uses white space to avoid clutter

  • Has visual hierarchy (big headlines, smaller text, clear buttons)

  • Looks great from a mobile view
